1833 Ordnance Survey map for the townlands of Seacon Beg, Seacon Lower and Seacon More
(Parts of sheets 11, 12, 16 & 17 - scale 6 inches to the mile - PRONI Ref. OS/6/1/11/1 - 12/1, 16/1 - 17/1)
This is a copy of the First Edition of the Ordnance Survey Map for Co. Antrim. The valuers used this map to create the VAL/1/A valuation maps. These maps are not the same as the later VAL/2/A Griffith's valuation maps of 1859 and can be quite difficult to interpret. Furthermore VAL/1/A/17, which includes many of the townlands in the two rural locality studies, is missing. I have decided, therefore, to use the OS map instead. As you can see the OS map only shows the location of buildings, lanes and roads in each townland, no field boundaries are included, nor does it contain any of the numbers which would enable us to identify the precise location of a house. Matching the numbers on the 1833 VAL/1/B valuation pages to the settlements on this map is problematic. In some instances the location of houses on the later c.1860 Griffith's Valuation map may help you to identify some of the 1833 houses on this map.
