1858 Printed [Tenement] Valuation for the City of Londonderry

The city of Londonderry, or the Municipal Borough of Londonderry as it was titled in the Griffith's Printed Valuation, was valued during 1857 and the results published in printed form in 1858. The pages of the valuation are arranged by ward and within each ward by townland. Within this structure the order of the streets tends to follow a geographical pattern.

Thirty-two of the sixty-six pages which cover the entire city on both sides of the Foyle have been scanned from the Printed Valuation. The table below indicates which streets appear on each page, the ward to which it belonged and the townland in which it was situated. In 1858 the city lay within the townlands of Clooney and Gobnascale on the Waterside and the townlands of Ballymagowan, Edenballymore and Londonderry on the west bank of the Foyle. Note that the townland of Londonderry covered the area within the limits of the city boundary at that time. The pages in the table below run in sequence from p. 200 and will open within this window. Note that I have highlighted in bold Pump Street and William Street the two case studies. This is because the pages that cover them are scattered somewhat.
