1831 Townland Valuation of the Streets in the Town of Limavady

The valuation of the streets in the town of Limavady took place in 1831 and the results were recorded in books which survive in manuscript format in PRONI [VAL/1/B/157F]. The streets are spread over three townlands - Killane, Rathbrady Beg and Rathbrady More.

Killane is on page 33 - Rathbrady Beg on pages 38 to 45 and Rathbrady More on page 48.

The part of the town known as Ballyclose is in the townlands of Rathbrady More and Killane.

The Rathbrady Beg pages cover Main Street, Linenhall Street, Catherine Street, Captain Street, Irish Green and Market House Lane. The pages are presented here in sequence. The numbers against the properties in each street correspond to the numbers on the 1834 Valuation Map of the town.

Unfortunately there is no detailed information in the Valuation Books on the dimensions and conditions of the houses in Limavady in 1832. However information is given on roofing material. The table below indicates the houses in each street which were thatched. Only 30 of the 155 houses listed in the valuation were thatched. So 80% of the houses in the town in 1832 were slated. Note that I have databased the names and streets for the entire town - Excel & PDF versions available on the main webpage.
