1859 Valuation Map of the Town of Coleraine

The numbers in the Griffith's Printed [Tenement] Valuation for the town of Coleraine match the numbers on the 1859 Valuation Map for the town (VAL/2/D/5/15). The 1859 map was produced at a scale of 4 feet to the mile. Obviously to present it on this CD I have had to break it down into a number of overlapping maps. The various maps covering the town are shown on the index map [scale 6 inches to the mile] below.

Note that the town is divided into two areas - the Parish of Killowen on the western side of the River Bann and the Parish of Coleraine on the eastern side of the river.  To access the maps in the Killowen part of the town click on one of the yellow squares below. A map, showing a section of this part of the town, will open within this window and you will be able to move to any of the other maps in the sequence for Killowen, or you can return to the index map. Returning to the index map will allow you to access the maps for the main part of the town.

Note that the quality of some the maps is relatively poor. To identify some numbers in some streets you may have to print out the map on glossy photo paper and use a magnifying glass.

Incidentally, the maps overlap sufficiently for you to reproduce [in hard copy] an overall map of both parts of the town. However, because the maps are photographic scans, the edges do not always match perfectly, particularly as you move away from the centre of the photo.
