Map]
| [No. 12] had been occupied since 1877 by
Wm. J. Baxter (Chemist, etc.). The 1901 Census Returns listed
him as living on the Lodge Road. The 1901 Census Returns
show that the upper floors of the shop were occupied by members of
staff who were either assistant or apprentice chemists with
Fanny K. Finlay as House Manager. One of these
apprentices was Joseph McMullan who went on to open a
chemist's shop in No. 32 on the north side of the street. Baxter was listed again in the 1911 Census Returns and by
this time was Sir William J. Baxter. In
1923 the shop was taken over by Robert MacIntosh (Hardware
Merchant). In 1952 Macintosh moved along the street to [Nos.
14 & 15] and [No.
12] became part of Woolworth's. |
