Photographs of Church Street, Coleraine

The photographs cover the period from c.1900 to the present day. Like the drawings, they are presented by the northern and southern sides of the streets. The earlier photographs have been copied from Memories in Focus, Vols 1 to 4 by kind permission of the authors - Robert Anderson and Tom McDonald, and from Fading Memories and More Fading Memories by Robert Anderson. The more recent photographs are mine.

There are three sets of photographs - a group covering the early 1900s, a group covering the 1920s to the 1960s and a group taken in the 1990s and 2000s.

I have been able to match the photographs to the 1859 large scale map of the town which accompanied the Griffith's Printed Valuation. Before looking at the photographs you should have a copy of the 1859 Valuation Map of the street to hand.

I have added some notes to each photograph which provide details of some of the persons who occupied each building shown in the photograph. I used the 1859 Griffith's Valuation and its revisions, the Street Directories, the 1901 and 1911 Census Returns plus information from local people to compile these notes. I should point out that, with the exception of the dates 1901 and 1911, which were census years, the dates given for persons occupying a property are approximate.
