| This photograph was taken in September
1946 and shows the funeral procession of Alderman Billy
Martin. The shops and houses on the south side of the street
include Dixon
& Co. (Drapers) which still trades there today. These
premises were No. 13 in Griffith's 1859 [Local numbers 27 &
29]. Next door [Nos. 14 & 15 in Griffith's 1859] were
Johnston & Armstrong (Drapers) [Local Nos. 31 & 33]. Next
door [No. 16 in Griffith's 1859] was H. W. G. Weir (Grocer)
[Local No. 34, which is just about visible on the
photograph]. Next door [No. 16a in Griffith's 1859] was
Miss Woods (Newsagent). [Local No. 35]. Next door [No. 17 in
Griffith's 1859] was The Wine Store [Local Nos. 36 & 37] and
so on up to the junction with Society Street. The next
photograph shows a section of this part of the street in
